  • Bulky yarn (dark for body, light for nose and horns)
  • 4mm (G6 hook)
  • Stitch Marker
  • Needle and scissors
  • Stuffing
  • Safety eyes (14mm)

Body

  • Row 1: Make 9ch, start with the second chain from the hook

  • Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  • Attach the eyes in the place where is marked and stuff your cow’s head.

Leave a long tail of yarn so you can sew later and then stuff your horns.

Nose Instructions (lighter color)

  • Row 1: Make 10ch, start in the second chain from the hook (Working on both sides of a chain): 8SC, 3SC in one st, 7SC, INC (20)
  • Row 2: INC, 7SC, 3INC, 7SC, 2INC (26) 
  • Row 3: SC, INC, 7SC, (SC, INC) 3 times, 7SC, (SC, INC) 2 times (32)

Leave a long tail for sewing later. 

  • You also want to sew the nose between R10 and 15 of the head and also create your nostrils using yarn of choice. 
  • Sew the horn between R2 and R5
  • Sew the Ears near both horns

4 Legs Instructions

Start with black yarn

  • Row 1: 6SC in an MR (6)
  • Row 2: 6INC (12)
  • Row 3: (3SC, INC) 3 times (15)
  • Change to brown yarn
  • Row 4-10: 15SC (15) 7 rows total

Cut the yarn on 3 legs. When you reach the 4th leg, do not cut the yarn.
Instead, join the 4th leg with the others to then crochet the
body part.
Keep the hook at the 4th leg and continue crocheting row 11.

  • Row 11: 9ch, 4SC (join the 1st leg), 5 Ch, 4SC (join the 2nd leg), 9CH,
  • 4SC (join the 3rd leg), 5CH, 4SC (join the 4th leg) (44)
  • Row 12: 9SC (crochet a chain of 9 stitches across row 11), 4SC, 5SC
  • (crochet a chain of 5 stitches across row 11), 4SC, 9SC (crochet a
  • chain of 9 stitches across row 11), 4SC, 5SC (crochet a chain of 5

Now you want to cut the yarn. Next, you want to use your needle to sew the remaining together.

Flip back the crocheted piece you just finished to continue crocheting
onto the body. Join the yarn to the first stitch of the 5ch chain.

Body

  • Row 1: 5SC (chain), 11SC (leg), 9SC (chain), 11SC (leg), 5SC (chain), 11SC (leg), 9SC (chain), 11SC (leg) (72)
  • Row 2-3: 72SC (72) 2 rows total

Stuff the body. Cut the yarn, fold it in half, and use a needle to sew the remaining
together.

Tail Instructions

  • Row 1: 6SC in an MR (6)
  • Row 2-12: 6SC (6) 11 rows total

Cow Fur Instructions

Using a 16cm/ 6 inches strand of yarn, then, you can tie this yarn loop onto the specified row on the cow’s body to create the cow’s fur.

Utilize the Lark’s Head Knot tied method. Be sure to tie the yarn consistently and securely to ensure that the fur does not fall out after your cow is finished.

Attach Your Head Fur

Attach the free highland cow crochet pattern fur throughout rows 1 and 2.
Front: In rows 4 and 5, on each side, attach 2 strands of fur.
Attach fur close to the horns.
Back: In rows 2 and 4, attach fur between the two horns, and
in row 7, attach fur between the two ears.

Attach Your Body Fur

Attach fur throughout row 12. After attaching the fur on this row,
there will be a gap in the back. Use a strand of yarn to sew along
the back to close it.
In row 10: Leave out 6 stitches of the CH segment without fur.
Attach fur throughout rows 7 and 8.
In row 6, attach fur around the neck area to create three layers of
fur in this part.

Attach Tail Fur

Attach the fur throughout your rows 1, 2 and 3.

Finish Assembling

  • Attach your head to the body
  • Attach your tail to row 9 of your body
