• 1 skein worsted weight cotton yarn (approximately 60–75 yards)
• Size H/8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

• ch – chain
• sc – single crochet
• hdc – half double crochet
• st(s) – stitch(es)
• rep – repeat

Notes

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until your dishcloth is square.

The turning chain does not count as a stitch.

Ch 1 at the beginning of every row.

Work the first stitch in the very first stitch of each row.

Row 1

Hdc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining chain across. (30 hdc)

Hdc in each stitch across. (30 hdc)

Ch 1, turn.

Repeat

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until your dishcloth measures approximately 8 inches or is nearly square, ending with either a sc or hdc row.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Optional Border

For a finished look:

• Ch 1.
• Work one round of single crochet evenly around the entire dishcloth.
• Place 3 sc in each corner.
• Join with a slip stitch to the first sc.
• Fasten off and weave in ends.
