This sweet free chick pattern is a great beginner crochet pattern. You can easily make an entire flock of chickens and display them in your office or kid’s room.

Worked in a continuous spiral. Do NOT join rounds for your free chick pattern.

Begin with a magic circle.

Round 1:
Ch 1, work 6 sc into magic circle. (6)

Round 2:
2 sc in each stitch around. (12)

Round 3:
Inc, sc in next stitch โ€” repeat around. (18)

Round 4:
Inc, sc in next 2 stitches โ€” repeat around. (24)

Round 5:
Inc, sc in next 3 stitches โ€” repeat around. (30)

Round 6:
Inc, sc in next 4 stitches โ€” repeat around. (36)

Rounds 7โ€“15:
Sc in each stitch around. (36)

Round 16:
Sc2tog, sc in next 4 stitches โ€” repeat around. (30)

Round 17:
Sc2tog, sc in next 3 stitches โ€” repeat around. (24)

Round 18:
Sc2tog, sc in next 2 stitches โ€” repeat around. (18)

Round 19:
Sc2tog, sc in next stitch โ€” repeat around. (12)

Stuff firmly.

Round 20:
Sc2tog around. (6)

Fasten off. Close remaining hole and weave in ends.

Wings โ€” Make 2

Round 3:

Feet Instructions

Leave a long starting tail for sewing.

Ch 2

Row 1:
3 sc in 2nd chain from hook. Ch 1, turn. (3)

Row 2:
Sc across. Ch 1, turn. (3)

Row 3:
In each stitch work (sl st, dc, sl st). (9 sts total)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Head Comb

First Comb Section

Sc into the top of the body across 3 stitches (forming a row โ€” not all in one stitch).
Ch 1, turn. (3)

Row 1: Sc across. Do NOT chain, turn. (3)
Row 2: Sc2tog, sc in next stitch. Do NOT chain, turn. (2)
Row 3: Sc2tog. Do NOT chain, turn. (1)
Row 4: Sc in stitch.

Fasten off.


Second Comb Triangle

Sc into body across 2 stitches to form a row.
Ch 1, turn. (2)

Row 1: Sc across. Do NOT chain, turn. (2)
Row 2: Sc2tog. Do NOT chain, turn. (1)
Row 3: Sc in stitch.

Fasten off.


Third Comb Triangle

Sc into body across 2 stitches to form a row.
Ch 1, turn. (2)

Row 1: Sc2tog. Do NOT chain, turn. (1)
Row 2: Sc in stitch.

Fasten off.

Assembly

Fold the beak circle in half.

Use the tail to secure the fold closed.

Sew the flat edge of the beak halfway down the body, aligned with the comb.

Sew wings onto each side of the body.

Attach feet to the bottom of the body of your free chick pattern.
