Crochet Supplies

These fun patterns make the perfect beanie crochet patterns and remember not all are for 0–3 months or 3–6 months or even 6–12 months but with some creative adjusting you can make them for all different sizes.

We can’t wait for you to discover how to crochet an easy short row crochet hat – it’s the best fitting hat you’ll ever crochet!

Crocheting short rows may seem complex, but it’s actually a simple technique that creates a beautifully shaped crown for your hat.

If you’re a fan of crocheting hats but don’t like bulky crowns, then crochet short rows are exactly what you need in your crochet repertoire.

Plus, this hat makes for a fantastic one-skein crochet project! The pattern even includes options for both a beanie and a slouch hat.

Our team opted to purchase the pattern from Etsy as we love supporting crochet designers and we then have the pattern again and again.

Monica created this beanie for her kids.  Here’s her critique: This pattern is well written. Works up quickly and can easily be modified for a custom fit. She made 5 so we are thinking this is a hit for a pattern.

Slouchy Beanie

This pattern is available as free patterns, but you can also spend a little and get the PDF version on Etsy. We loved making this beanie.

It was our first time using the bean stitch for a crochet hat pattern. We do have a guide on basic crochet stitches if you need some assistance or have never heard of this crochet stitch.

This hat can easily be made into different sizes. If you are unsure of hat sizes, download our crochet hat size chart.  This is such an easy project once you learn the bean stitch.

Dot created this beanie and loved it. She made several to coordinate with winter jackets and man did they turn out cute. Tweed is the best yarn for this as it keeps your head warm, if you want though, you can change the yarn.

We don’t recommend cotton yarn as it isn’t warm enough unless you live somewhere very mild.  If you live somewhere mild then you may want to look at the yarn you are using on all the patterns as worsted weight and Aran yarn are definitely known to keep the head nice and toasty when it’s freezing outside.

I’ve got a super cute pattern for you! It’s got loads of texture and will keep you cozy and stylish throughout the fall and winter. The Sugar and Spice crochet slouchy hat pattern is really intriguing to make, with a different stitch on almost every row, and it has a unique look that you don’t come across very often.

This hat is so cozy and comfortable, making it the perfect winter addition to any outfit. While these pictures feature the hat in neutral colors, I’ve also made a couple in bright colors, and it looks just as fantastic.

Sandra downloaded the PDF version of the pattern, which you will find on Kimberly’s website, and reviewed it for us. She sent me one photo and said her favorite hat pattern and then sent me 5 more photos.

She made everyone in her family a hat for the winter.  She said it’s such an easy pattern and a great project for Christmas gifts.

Crochet Messy Bun Hat Pattern

A few years ago this messy bun hat pattern went viral on social media. Messy bun hats have been around for a while and we still love these. I love that the top of the hat allows for my hair fun or ponytail to stick out and my hair doesn’t look like a flat pancake.

This is such a great pattern to make for a gift and did we mention it uses basic stitches and repeat rows so it’s an easy hat pattern and people love receiving it as a gift.

We opted for the written pattern from her Etsy shop, which is above. If you aren’t a fun of the flowers, simply leave them off.

There is lots of texture, so you don’t need them for a beautiful hat.  Some of our team made these in solid colors and some in a dyed piece of yarn because it’s such a cozy hat women especially love.

In fairness, some men also have buns and ponytails, you can easily make them one by using different colors and probably not adding the flowers. That might not go over well with that man in your life. Use the flowers for another crochet project. So many options for them.

Moss Stitch Beanie Pattern

The moss stitch beanie is worked from the bottom up and in the round, with sizes available from Newborn to Adult L. It’s a quick and beginner-friendly stitch that looks great in a single color, stripes, or color blocks.

Plus, it’s a fantastic way to use up leftover yarn scraps, just like in the adult version, especially if you don’t have enough for a scrap blanket.

If you haven’t attempted a moss stitch before, check out the moss stitch tutorial.  We created this using adult sizes and loved the stitch pattern.

Susan made this for us creating this crocheted beanie. She said the written pattern is easy to follow with picture tutorial, and it was a perfect fit. She noted that if you are a beginner crocheter, practice the moss stitch and then make these winter hats which are perfect for those cold days when your head needs some warmth.

They also make great gifts so start now and by Christmas you will have presents ready to give. Susan also made a few for her local homeless shelter. They really appreciated the gesture.

How cute is this hat? You can do it in other colors. Also don’t forget your tapestry needle as you will need it to finish off the hat.

If you love the hat but need it in a child size or smaller you will want to adjust the slip stitches and then 2nd ch and 3rd ch. You can find sizes on our crochet hat size chart.

When working the brim, it’s important to keep the slip stitches loose to give the brim more stretch. All stitches in the brim and body of the hat are made in the back loop only (BLO).

Remember that turning chains don’t count as stitches in the brim, and the chain 2 at round beginnings doesn’t count as stitches in the body of the hat.

Additionally, if you need to make the hat longer, simply add a third (or fourth, etc.) row of double crochet stitches to the body of the hat.

Basic Beanie Crochet Pattern

You’ll love the amazing texture in this crochet beanie pattern! The additional loop between double crochet stitches creates a delicate diagonal design that’s simply lovely.

This technique also gives the stitch a little extra “poof,” making it an especially soft and squishy project.

It looks beautiful with solid or variegated yarns and is especially fun when mixed up with striping. Remember also with these easy crochet patterns you can do a yarn pom pom or leave it off. It is totally up to you and your personal preference.

The pattern includes photos to help you get the stitch pattern just right. Plus, there’s a matching cowl pattern available too!

Suzanne reviewed this for our team and loved the PDF tutorial. The instructions were great with the most difficult part being the diagonal design, but she said to take your time and redo if necessary, and you will easily get it finished.

She said these hats are perfect for the whole family. She made them as everyone in her family needed a new hat for the winter season.

We had someone ask the other day why we don’t post 30 or 40 patterns, and the answer is simple: overwhelm. We know it can be overwhelming when you are trying to find the right pattern and there are just a ton of choices, and we don’t simply post to post.

Our team takes the time to find the right patterns that we know will serve you well. We first find patterns, look at reviews, and then we have a team of people who create the pattern and give feedback.

If we find the pattern confusing or hard for our readers, you won’t see it make it to these posts. Many don’t make the cut. We are here to help you, whether you are a beginner crocheter or experienced and have done a thousand crochet projects. We don’t want you to get a pattern, and it sits unfinished because it was confusing or hard.

Here are a few more crochet hat patterns for you to check out. All have been tested and reviewed, and we can’t wait to see which one you make.

If you have a pattern you love, make sure and leave us a comment. We would love to check it out.
