9 Crochet Headbands Free Pattern: Easy Tutorial Ideas

Save for later

We thought it would be so much fun to include some crochet headbands free pattern ideas. There are 9 patterns and all but 2 are free patterns.

The other 2 were free but now are patterns on Etsy. I still love making them so much that I included them below. I hope you don’t mind.

If we haven’t met, I am Connie and I would consider myself a beginner crocheter. All the patterns have been made by myself or friends that help with the site. We just want to make sure that you have the most current information available and easy patterns.

Crochet Supplies

I have highlighted the specific yarn used in each of the patterns below, but there are a few things that help me with my crocheting:

Twist-Front Crochet Ear Warmer

  • Crochet Skill Level: Beginner-Intermediate
  • Yarn-Bulky weight

This free crochet headband pattern is perfect for you if you want to look cute without bulky ear warmers. I found this pattern super easy for beginner skill level.

They also make the perfect gift to put in a Christmas stocking or as a quick project for a birthday gift.

We found that bulk weight yarn worked best, but remember you can easily change the weight of the yarn if that’s more comfortable to your crochet skill level.

That’s the great thing about crochet patterns, the designer will give suggestions but if you pop into a Facebook group and ask for help, advanced crocheters will always have the best tips for you.

  • Crochet Skill Level: Beginner-Intermediate
  •  YarnWorsted weight yarn

These crochet ear warmers are a mix between an ear warmer pattern and messy bun ear warmer. Although this isn’t a free pattern at this point, the pattern is too cute not to include.

My friend Kim made this easy crochet headband pattern for her granddaughter, who needed something to keep her head warm but still wanted to wear her hair up.

She loved it, and she said that it uses basic crochet stitches and was a great project to finish in just a few hours.

I put in my request for her to make one for me for Christmas because I love wearing my hair up in the winter but still need to cover my ears and neck to stay warm during outside activities.

Tunisian Ear Warmer

If you aren’t sure what Tunisian crochet it, You can read all about it here.  It’s a really fun crochet stitch, but I wouldn’t say these are easy crochet headbands for beginners.

Doesn’t this remind you of a tiara? Jane made this pattern and let me know that it’s super fun and if you use different colors of yarn makes a beautiful piece to show off while keeping your head warm all winter.

Tunisian uses a special crochet hook and if you are a beginner but have made several projects, I do believe you can easily pick up this stitch. We included a video tutorial for Tunisian stitches in the article above.  It’s a beautiful stitch that with some practice you can easily master.

This beautiful crochet ear warmer pattern provides detailed, step-by-step instructions for creating a crochet cable stitch, resulting in the perfect cold weather accessory!

As you can see, this free crochet pattern is a great way to use up your yarn stash and make great gifts. Everyone loves this cozy headband.

You can easily adjust the stitch count depending on the head size. You can easily make different sizes by following our Crochet Hat Chart Guide. We have included all the different sizes depending on ages, from infant to adult size.

This is one of my favorite free crochet patterns to make. I actually made some for our local women’s shelter and actually asked the director for people’s favorite colors. You can’t imagine how excited they were for a gift based on their preferences.

We can easily change someone’s perspective and make them feel special by creating something so easy but made with love.

I encourage you to reach out to your community and ask who you can serve. You might even have people donate yarn they no longer use for such a great cause.

Double Shell Headband

If you haven’t heard of the shell stitch, you can learn more about it here. This one takes a basic shell stitch and creates a double shell stitch, so you will want to make sure to cut the yarn after completing four rounds and flip your work to achieve the mirrored “double shell” effect.

This double shell headband is gorgeous, and I love that it is thicker on the top and thinner towards your neck. It’s super comfortable to wear, which I love.

Herringbone Ear Warmer

This adorable Herringbone headband utilizes the Half Double Crochet stitch to achieve a dense, snug weave, ideal for keeping your ears warm! Plus, it has a stylish appearance.

Our friend Jennifer created this for her daughter. She is, like me, a beginner crocheter, and said this was the perfect project for a simple crochet pattern.

Her daughter uses it as a runner ear warmer as she is training for a marathon.

Her daughter said that it stayed in place as she ran and kept her ears warm, which made the run comfortable. I am not a runner but I do like having a headband ear warmer as I walk on a cool morning.

These crocheted headbands are the perfect accessory, especially for last-minute gifts.  This is my go to winter headband and I found it super easy to create.

It is such a fun headband you can make quickly using different yarns. It’s perfect for little girls or adults. The best part is I got to use basic stitches and learned a few new stitches along the way.

This is a gorgeous ear warmer that can easily be adjusted for different sizes and you can customize the color to make sure everyone’s favorite colors are covered. Definitely give it a try and I promise you will want this in your crochet patterns folder.

I LOVE this ear warmer headband pattern. It uses simple stitches and not that much yarn and when done in a solid color with the middle piece, it is gorgeous.

It comes with a written pattern and photo tutorial, so it makes it an easy crochet pattern, especially for beginners.

It took about a skein of yarn to complete this crochet project.  If you are new to Cable crochet pattern, you can find a video and description here. It’s always fun to learn new stitches and try new skills.

The great part of crochet mistakes is you simple remove your stitches and start where you needed. No need for a seam ripper like in sewing.

Now ladies, if you want a little fun headband, you can make this easy pattern for yourself. Just follow the stitch pattern, and it will take you just a little time to make it.

I used a tapestry needle to attach my bow for my granddaughter. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

I hope you found some great crochet headbands free pattern ideas to try. I know we included a few paid, but they were just too cute and such a simple pattern to not include them.
